Vol. 5, Iss. 5 Heroes





“If you were a member of the Second Continental Congress in 1776, you were a rebel and considered a traitor by the King of England. You knew that a reward had been posted for the capture of certain prominent rebel leaders and signing your name to the Declaration [of Independence] meant that you pledged your life, your fortune, and your sacred honor to the cause of freedom.” www.archives.gov .

Our Declaration Signers were heroes – 56 men who, despite the risks, voted for freedom and signed their names to a piece of parchment on which was stated, “…That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do.”
